New Doctor Who companion Revealed!

Actress Pearl Mackie was unveiled as the newest companion for Peter Capaldi's Doctor at half time during Match of the Day yesterday. Brixton born Pearl, who has only two previous TV credits to her name but is a successful stage actress, will be playing a character called Bill when series ten starts in 2017.

I think that her name being Bill is a nice tribute to William Hartnell, and also to William Shakespeare, as she revealed as the new companion on the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.

Bill looks like a nice, normal, down-to-earth person, and I think the Doctor likes the fact that she asks questions instead of just accepting the way things are, or not even seeing that there are questions to be asked.

Although a lot of the new series fans seem to be assuming it's a tribute to Billie Piper. sigh.
