So, the first two episodes of the new Doctor Who spinoff are now out there, has anyone else seen it? I was hesitant about watching it because I don't really like watching stuff online, but was pleasantly surprised-it was better than I expected, and very definitely not the kind of show I'd assumed it would be; far more like Torchwood than The Sarah Jane Adventures! Ram and Miss Quill, I think, are the characters that are growing on me the most.

I'd say that in school terms it's more Year 11 than Year 7.

Like, Year 7 is for eleven-year-olds and it's all football stickers and scented gel pens (I may be showing my age there). Year 11 is for sixteen-year-olds and it's all shagging and alcopops. (Or so I hear.)

We didn't use those terms when I was at school. When you were 11 you were a first year in secondary school, you stayed until the fifth year, and when you were sixteen you either left or went into sixth form for two years of additional education.

Nowadays they count your years of education from Year One of primary school. Your 'fifth year' is our Year Eleven.

Not in education, no. They're always adding new gimmicks.

I couldn't even find it here in the US. I am going to see the season opener of Doctor Who in the theater April 17th, and an episode of this is supposed to be shown too. I'm looking forward to it.
What do you think so far?

I actually liked it a lot, but the BBC seem to have sabotaged it with no promotion and poor scheduling.

It was amazing! I loved it! But, like Tony says, the BBC has a talent for punching itself in the nuts by hiding its really good stuff on the internet, and not blowing its own trumpet when it's got an absolute GEM on its hands with an amazing young cast.

I think there is still a certain element at the BBC that rather looks down on science fiction. Doctor Who sort of got a pass for a long time because it was very popular, but now, even that isn't guaranteed a decent timeslot, so Class had no chance.

I don't know about that. Maybe it was because Patrick Ness had never written for TV before. But it was definitely SOME sort of prejudice. It was as good as Being Human, and that got loads of series.

I can't say I liked it, or didn't like it. I saw the first episode last night, it was shown before the Pilot, so I can't tell. Definitely not what I was expecting, but it has possibilities. Maybe I'll get to see more someday.

I have to say I think if the theater I was at last night was any indication there won't be many more of these Doctor Who "events". There couldn't have been more than 15 people in the theater. Oh, well, fun while it lasted.

Ah, well. The Doctor always survives. His star will rise again.

I don't doubt it. The story-telling is solid, so no reason it won't keep going.

The first episode showed up on Amazon, so I might get to see the season!

They should be showing the lot, Amazon getting the US rights was why Netflix stopped showing Who related material.

I hope you watch the season, because I thought it was really well done and I really cared about the characters. However, you don't have to watch it just because I liked it (and Tony liked it too, I guess). Like, it depends whether or not it resonates with YOU.

I think the two of you liking it is more than enough reason for me to give it a try. I think Amazon is releasing the episodes one at a time, so I'll keep watching!
