New Classic Series DVD's for 2011
In my opinion there are some great releases of the Classic Series on their way this year. Really looking forward to the glut of Pertwee's announced, in particular Planet Of The Spiders and The Ambassadors Of Death.
The only one I'd say I'm really looking forward not announced yet is The Greatest Show In The Galaxy, which I've only ever seen once but remember as being rather good.

Since they're apparently keen to get the DVD range completed by 2013, I'm a bit baffled by all the rereleases (the Revisitations sets). Wouldn't it make sense to release the as yet unreleased stories first?

Re: New Classic Series DVD's for 2011
It's probably more of a money making exercise on the part of 2Entertain. For example, I'm quite happy with my old DVD copy of Spearhead From Space but will be forced to 'buy it again' in a box that will also contain the not yet released 'Terror Of The Autons'. Seeing it's Pertwee, I probably will, although none of these 'Revisitations' Box Sets interest me in the slightest.
You'd be surprised at how few complete stories there are yet to be released. They'll all be out by 2013 I should think.

I'm probably going to have to buy Revisitations 1 purely in order to get the TV Movie with some decent extras on it, but that does annoy me as I've no interest in buying the other stories again. It's a bit of a con.

Why not buy Revisitations 1, get the stuff you need, then send the rest to me...and then I wouldn't watch it either!!

I do - but I don't need to see it again...it's not been the same since 1981 when that idiot turned up in his cricket gear...

And the 'Menoptra' - is that their name? Cardboard sets, giant 'wasp' type things, metal cube things - Mekanoids? What happened to them all??!!
Re: New Classic Series DVD's for 2011
...and then we got Sylvester McCoy and you wonder why I stopped watching!!!

She'll be back!GBF wrote:- and where the hell is Luce???!!!
Actuallly, I liked the Mechanoids, too. They had a lot of unrealized potential, I felt...

Re: New Classic Series DVD's for 2011
Did the Mekanoids only make that appearance way back when? It must have been about 1965 when they were around. I wrote a story about Doctor Who with the Mekanoids in it (when I was knee high to a grasshopper). I'd let you read it but it was stolen and is now lost in the mists of time...hmm...maybe someone could travel back and get it. Or perhaps they already did...
Re: New Classic Series DVD's for 2011
1965, yes-it was in The chase, the last story to feature the original companions. They were heavily promoted because the BBC thought they could be another money spinner like the Daleks, but they were never seen again...

Re: New Classic Series DVD's for 2011
I have to say that Stan's words are great - much better than either Jack's or Steve's. As for She-Hulk...there's a clue in there as I believe she's Bruce Banner's cousin AND green...if he thought of that, it's STILL not entirely original is it?
Stan answers his phone: "Martin, we need to protect our copyright on Jack's - er - MY Hulk...yep...yep - great idea! We'll call her SHE-HULK!! VaVaVoom!"
Nuff said!

Presumably for 2012, 2 entertain have announced that an Ace boxset of 2 stories (Dragonfire and Patrol, I'd guess) and the dvd of Nightmare of Eden are now in production.

Any bets on the final release in the range? Until recently I'd have guessed Greatest Show, Daemons or The Reign of Terror/Ice Warriors, but I'm now thinking maybe Ambassadors of Death...codywillis1 wrote:One of the last, certainly, by the look of it (grumble, grumble).

Daemons seems to be in line for next year judging from Twitter tweets. Ambassadors who knows?
I don't think they're even counting Reign/Ice Warriors as part of the main line.

I can't believe they won't release them, though. They released every episode on VHS, they must do the same on DVD, surely?

Re: New Classic Series DVD's for 2011
If only. I love Planet of the Spiders, but the presence of Gareth and his West Country yokels on Metebelis III has always puzzled me. They claim to be descended from earth colonists, but the events on Metebelis are supposed to be happening at the same time as the events on Earth, so how did they get there in the 1970s? Was their brand new combine harvester equipped with warp drive?

Re: New Classic Series DVD's for 2011
The Metebelis III scences are by far the worst thing about Spiders, mainly due to the poor acting. Gareth Hunt was an OK'ish actor but is very poor in this, and Jenny Laird is awful.
But, it's such a monumental tale, the last outing for one of the great Doc's, and I forgive it all it's sins. Can. Not. Wait.

Gee. Thank you Tommy.
Here's to a perhaps slightly more informative and articulate exchange between Mssrs Courtney, Letts, Dicks, etc on the commentary.
