Tony DeZuniga 1941-2012 RIP
Tony DeZuniga, the Filipino artist responsiblefor creating the distinctive look of Jonah Hex, as well as Black Orchid, died early this morning of complications caused by a stroke. Tony was the first Filipino artist to break into the mainstream US comics industry in the late 1960s, paving the way for many others. He worked for Marvel and DC for18 years, drawing characters including Spider-Man, Catwoman, Vigilante, the Phanom Stranger, Arak Son of Thunder, Black Knight, Conan, Doc savage, Dr. Strange, Man-Thing, Punisher, Red Sonja, Shanna the She-Devil and the X-Men, and returned to DC to draw a Jonah Hex one-shot in 2010, though in later years he had worked primarily in the video game industry. Since his retirement, he had been teaching art and working on privately commissioned paintings.
