Spider-Man to Join the Marvel Cinematic Universe

It's been announced that Marvel have worked out a deal with Sony, who own the rights to the Spider-Man movies, that will allow the webbed wonder to appear in Marvel Studios films set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony will still finance, own and retain final creative control over future Spidey movies, but Spidey will appear in an MCU movie before Sony relaunch the actual Spidey movie franchise in 2017. There's a lot of speculation that this means Spidey will appear in Captain America: Civil War, which would make sense given his crucial involvement in the Civil War limited series.

Oh, and Andrew Garfield is out.

They're relaunching Spidey again? Like, rerelaunching him?

Looks like it. I don't think the last relaunch did as well as they'd hoped.

How many times do they expect people to pay to go to the cinema to see a superficially different version of the same darn origin story?

Personally, I think they should've stuck with Tobey Maguire. But, how many different versions of Bram stoker's dracula or ERB's Tarzan have been filmed?

Which sucks. I like the idea of Spidey making it into the MCU, but I like Garfield. I think he and Emma Stone (and I don't know why they killed her off) were great together. He was a great actor for the dual role, and I'm gonna wish he were doing it.

That's different. As long as Dracula features a vampire called Dracula and Tarzan features a savage called Tarzan, the story can be messed around with to an unlimited extent. But how many people are going to be watching the rerebooted Spider-Man and saying, "Gosh, that Uncle Ben is a lovely old chap, so it's great that he's going to be around for the entire movie"?
