Well, the first episode of series ten/season thirty-six has aired, so what do we think? I was pleased. A nice introduction to the new girl, who I think is going to be a bit of a surprise hit, no real villain, which was interesting, and I'm intrigued by both the vault and whatever is up with Nardole. Nice shout-outs to the past, too, with the vintage sonic screwdrivers, the photo of Susan, and the reappearance of the Movellans after thirty-eight years! A good start, I'd say.

And don't forget the sign from the Marie Celeste, which is obviously a reference to The Chase, and the Doctor playing the opening chord's of Beethoven's Fifth, which is a reference to Before the Flood in the last series.

Bill is an engaging and likeable person, and one of the things I liked about her was that her sexuality was portrayed in exactly the same way as a heterosexual person's would be, and has been in the past... and yet at least one person on Twitter thinks it was over-emphasised and made a huge deal of, and is pushing an agenda in a kids' show *sigh*

I like that Bill reacts to the TARDIS in the way any normal person would, i.e. by nearly having a panic attack. Also, it's good to know that the TARDIS has a macaroon dispenser.

I'm looking forward to finding out what's in the vault, which is obviously of Gallifreyan origin, and what Bill's history is. And will her foster mum get back with Neville??? Two nations wait with bated breath...

It was also a great relief (to me, anyway), after all these years, to learn that the TARDIS actually has a toilet...

So until a room is specifically mentioned you assume the TARDIS doesn't have it?

Well...we don't know much about Gallifreyan biology....

I thought it was fun, that it gave hints of something coming for the season, and Bill is going to be a good companion.

No matter how it's done, some people are going to be upset. They did a great job of doing it precisely as you said, that's all they can do.

One of the first comments on the Doctor Who Facebook page afterwards was from an outraged father saying he wasn't letting his kids watch it anymore because of "Moffat's PERVERSIONS" (his caps, not mine). Razz

I will never understand some people. Pretty much don't want to, but I just don't.

There have always been plenty of people like this around. Unfortunately, the internet has given them a chance to inflict their views on a far wider audience, and to be anonymous while doing so.

I know and agree, but the visceral hatred some of this stuff seems to show throws me still.

The kids have a saying: "Haters gonna hate."

Or sometimes it's "H8rs gonna h8," but you get the idea.

Nowt we can do.
