Does anybody know what's going on with original Dr. Fate?
Once DC started the New 52, we had a "Doctor Fate" appear in the series Earth 2, but that one was a guy named Khalid Ben-Hassin who had found the Helm of Nabu.
Then, in 2015, Paul Levitz was the writer for a series that featured a student named Khalid Nassour who was given the helmet that allowed him to become Doctor Fate.
The interesting thing about Khalid Nassour was that in issue #12, it was revealed that he had a relative called "Uncle Kent" (actually his Great Uncle on his mother's side)
Even more interesting, Kent would also resume his identity as "Doctor Fate" and work with Khalid in later issues. And in one issue (#16), he even though about his days with the JSA in one panel.
But even though some of those last issues were published after Rebirth had begun, I don't know if any of that remains as part of the current continuity.
We also saw "Doctor Fate" show up in the DC Universe: Rebirth one-shot, with his appearance connected to Blue Beetle.
Beyond that, Doctor Fate is also now tied in with the 2018 Justice League relaunch.
But, aside from his mention of his time with the JSA in Paul Levitz' series, has there been any other mention of Doctor Fate with the JSA yet?

Not specificaly, as far as I'm aware, but the last Dr. Fate series seems to still b e in continuity and the guy who's been seen in recent months (in Metal and DC Nation as well as the Justice League relaunch) is clearly intended to be the same character. I gather Kent also appeared in several issues of Blue Beetle in which he was basically trapped in his tower in Salem while Nabu ran around pretending to be him, but I never read those issues so I'm unclear on the details.

I had avoided Blue Beetle and Metal, but did get a copy of DC Nation #0. He appeared for one page (three panels / 18 words) as part of "Justice League: Team Wonder".tony ingram wrote:Not specificaly, as far as I'm aware, but the last Dr. Fate series seems to still b e in continuity and the guy who's been seen in recent months (in Metal and DC Nation as well as the Justice League relaunch) is clearly intended to be the same character. Haven't read any of the Justice League: No Justice issues released last month (and don't currently plan to), so no idea if/how much of a role he had in those four issues.

Not a lot, basically. He was slightly more prominent in Metal.MajorHoy wrote:I had avoided Blue Beetle and Metal, but did get a copy of DC Nation #0. What use will Man-Bat be on a team? He can't even make the coffee, because he doesn't have proper hands.

On the other hand, if it gets too hot in their HQ, he can keep the team cool by fanning them with his wings. He could indeed be their biggest fan!Lucy McGough wrote:What use will Man-Bat be on a team? He can't even make the coffee, because he doesn't have proper hands.

Actually, the usefulness of Man-Bat may depend in part on how much of his human intelligence he retains.tony ingram wrote:On the other hand, if it gets too hot in their HQ, he can keep the team cool by fanning them with his wings. Back in the pre-CoIE days, he had a long stretch where he still maintained much of Kirk Langstrom's intelligence / personality.

I think he's generally been treated as a savage monster in recent years...

His wife was a man? I didn't know that that was legal back then.

Actually, she was turned into a female man-bat eventually referred to as "She-Bat".Lucy McGough wrote:His wife was a man? I didn't know that that was legal back then.
(Yeah, the "She-_____" designation gets to be a bit trite after a while . . . )

The female counterpart to "He-Man" was "She-Ra", and over at AC Comics, "She-Cat" was a member of FemForce.tony ingram wrote:She-Bat, She-Hulk, She-Thing....there do seem to be a few...MajorHoy wrote: . . . eventually referred to as "She-Bat".

We also can't forget
And to make matters more interesting, Francine Langstrom wouldn't be the only "She-Bat"!

Thought so. That art could only really come from that era. Thankfully.MajorHoy wrote:Yeah, 1993, as a matter of fact.tony ingram wrote:I'm assuming that last one was a 90s book...?

In other comics. Or strip joints, I guess.

I wonder if he went to strip joints . . . and besides, the ones there aren't always "real"/natural.Mbast1 wrote:In other comics. Or strip joints, I guess.Lucy McGough wrote:Had Neal Adams ever actually seen breasts before?

So the answer is probably "no".
