Favorite Doctor Who story/episode
I am a huge fan of Inferno, for its dark tones, interesting themes and the fact it was the only DW story till recently which dealt with the issue of parallel worlds. I absolutely loved the contrast between the characters different reality counterparts, especially the Brigade leader. I also found the monster frightening, especially when Benton turns into one of them.

I think Inferno is right up there. For a seven parter it doesn't drag for a minute, it's probably Jon Pertwees finest performance in the role, Nick Courtney excells himself as the evil Brigade Leader, and we get to see lots of Liz Shaw's legs!!
I really love most of the 70's stuff with Pertwee and T Baker, but if I had to pick just one as a favourite, it would have to be Logopolis.

Inferno is definitely up there for me too, as are War Games, Androzani, Fenric and City of Death. Blissful stuff.

Re: Favorite Doctor Who story/episode
I would have to say the surreal Troughton classic The Mind Robber. Weird, imaginative, with a dreamlike quality to it that makes it one I can watch and be enthralled by again and again. Steven Moffat's 'Blink' and the Tom Baker story 'Warrior's Gate' come close, but nothing quite tops The Mind Robber. And the first episode is undoubtedly, for me, the best single episode in the show's history-which isn't bad going, given that it was tacked on at the last minute and had next to no budget...

Probably the one before the season finale in 2008... can't remember the name. The bit where "the aliens" make contact and it's just "EXTERMINATE!" repeated over and over is amazing, especially Sarah Jane's reaction!

Re: Favorite Doctor Who story/episode
The Stolen Earth, Mike - probably the most exciting episode of 'Who I've seen.
But when this question is asked, Inferno, Genesis and Caves are always the ones I think of first.
From the new series, I'd have Midnight join that upper echelon.
...Many more biting at their heels, but to save my braincells and your eyes just one for each of the other Doctors: The Aztecs, The War Games, Revelation of the Daleks, Paradise Towers (no, really), the 2013 xmas special, The Parting of the Ways.
Tony - would you mind a plug for the World Cup before we get to the finals? Just thinking that there might be some here who'd like to be on the terraces when we get to that last 32.

No problem at all-just stick it in the off topic section!

I knew this would be your favorite for the comic references
The Hines chicken pox solution was also a very clever idea.

Wouldn't it be better here, in the 'Who section?tony ingram wrote:No problem at all-just stick it in the off topic section!
But I'll stick it where you want, as the Bishop said to the actress.

All good choices and definitely in my personal top ten. Have you bought the new Space Museum/Chase DVD set? I gather it's been 'tweaked' a bit, though I've not yet had a chance to watch The Chase (I started The Space Museum last night).Lucy McGough wrote:Classic series - The Chase.

I'm a bit too broke to buy DVDs at the moment, but it's definitely on my 'to do' list.

I got given mine! I've a friend who has a little sideline in *ahem* not entirely authorized copies of new releases. I probably will buy a proper copy when I get the chance, but the main thing for me is having it...

new series The Doctor Dances/The Empty Child, or any other Eccleston episode.

I'd definitely agree the Empty Child two parter is one of the best of the new. Likewise Dalek and Father's Day. Eccleston certainly had more than his share of good stories, with hindsight.

Genesis of the Daleks is a good one too, when i first watched it i went on a Davros kick and would randomly spout quotes, i think thats what finally drove my boyfriend of the time away... haha.
And the first two Dalek stories for thier spooky atmospheres. Somebody did a 'prequel' to Dalek Invasion of Earth on youtube which has almost no sound at all, except quiet music and muted "we are the masters of earth!" shouting. It also has the new Wembly stadium with a "celebrating 160 years" sign on the side.

What on earth were you thinking, going out with someone who wasn't a Who fan?felneymike wrote:Genesis of the Daleks is a good one too, when i first watched it i went on a Davros kick and would randomly spout quotes, i think thats what finally drove my boyfriend of the time away... haha.

It is possible to 'convert' a Not-We partner, but it takes time and patience. You have to examine their personality quite closely to decide which era of Who is likely to be the most accessible jumping on point for them...Lucy McGough wrote:What on earth were you thinking, going out with someone who wasn't a Who fan?felneymike wrote:Genesis of the Daleks is a good one too, when i first watched it i went on a Davros kick and would randomly spout quotes, i think thats what finally drove my boyfriend of the time away... haha.
