Golden Age The Shade
First appearance: Flash Comics #33 (September 1942):
(NOTE: Hawkman was the feature on that issue's cover, not The Flash)
The Shade would change his appearance somewhat by the time he next showed up in the Silver Age (in The Flash #123, cover-dated September 1961).
From Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe Vol. XX (October 1986),
As for The Shade's identification as "Richard Swift", it appears that did not come up until after he began to have a recurring role in Starman.
