I'm the same, I won't wait in crowds (even before the pandemic) but if I can get a better price on something I want that's good.

Stopped at the comic book shop today and picked up:
DC Comics:
* Arkham City: The Order of the World #6 (of 6)
* Batgirls #4
* Batman #121
* The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #12 (of 12)
Not sure if/when I may buy any more DC titles at this point. Arkham City: The Order of the World and The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries have ended; I dropped Batman because I have no interest in the Shadow War crossover with Robin and Deathstroke, and I also wasn't thrilled with Williamson's writing on Batman anyway.
As for Batgirls, the art is a bit annoying, and while in general I tend to like Barbara, Cass, and Steph, I really don't recognize them in this comic book.

Arkham City was a really good book, I thought. I'm amazed that someone actually made the Ten Eyed Man interesting, even if he was pretty much unrecognisable.

Earth Prime: Stargirl was a really nice little story. Out of the main continuity, of course, but the characters were spot on. And I was so glad to see Jerry Ordway drawing the Golden Age characters again!

They had a signed cover on at least one copy there, but I passed on that one so somebody else could get it. I believe Ordway still lives in the area.tony ingram wrote:Earth Prime: Stargirl was a really nice little story. Out of the main continuity, of course, but the characters were spot on. Re: When did you last go to a comic book shop?
It's been about three months since I last went to my comic book shop.
There were only two comics in my hold file (there should have been a third one, but they'll try to get me another copy).
Anyway, the two books were:
Dark Horse comics =
* British Paranormal Society: Time Out of Mind #4 (of 4)
* Young Hellboy: Assault on Castle Death #2 (of 4)
Off the racks I bought:
DC Comics =
* DC's Terrors Through Time #1 (one-shot) includes a Justice Society of America story
* Flashpoint Beyond #6 (of 6) only bought issue #6 because it leads into the upcoming The New Golden Age one-shot
* GCPD: The Blue Wall #1 will give it a try . . .
and from Dark Horse:
* Hellboy in Love #1 (of 5)

Last went to Central City Comics last Wednesday, but the forum for some reason has had me locked out for about the last two weeks. Today, my password worked again. Weird.
Is anyone else really enjoying Flash at the moment? Jay, Max and Jesse are back!

Only issue of The Flash I've bought / read in a while was the one that guest-starred the Golden Age Ray and had Wally temporarily in Jay's body during WWII.tony ingram wrote:Last went to Central City Comics last Wednesday, but the forum for some reason has had me locked out for about the last two weeks. By the way, in case you hadn't heard, The Flash is due for a major change with issue #800 and a new writer taking over.

Re: When did you last go to a comic book shop?
I stopped at the comic book shop twice this month!
Back on September 6th I got:
DC
* Justice Society of America #6
Then I went again today (Friday, September 22nd) because I was in the area anyway and bought:
DC =
* Detective Comics #58 (facsimile edition; orig. 1941)
and
Marvel
* Captain America #1 (LGY #751), but just out of curiosity.

Re: When did you last go to a comic book shop?
Stopped at the comic book shop today and got three books from DC:
* Wesley Dodds: The Sandman #1 (of 6)
NOTE: Had to get one of the varioant covers because there wasn't a copy of the regular cover in my pull file and there weren't any copies of the main cover left on the shelf.
* Jay Garrick: The Flash #1 (of 6)
and from the "new this week" books I picked up
* All-American Comics #16 facsimile edition
(originally printed in 1940)
I passed on Alan Scott: The Green Lantern #1 (of 6).
No interest in reading about his new past history.

Yeah, I paid the extra buck.Philip K Ditko wrote:Did they charge you extra for the variant cover?
It's all done by computers, anyway, so the guy at the counter just scans the bar codes on the comic books to get the prices. I didn't think it was worth bothering to ask if he could give me a break on the dollar. And part of the reason I might not have gotten that issue in my pull box is because they use a system that's based on / linked to Diamond Distribution, which would normally be efficient except DC no longer goes through Diamond (at least here in the U.S.). They did pull the Jay Garrick issue for me, so I'll have to wait and see what happens with the Wesley Dodds book for issue #2.

Stopped at the comic book shop yesterday and picked up:
* Wesley Dodds: The Sandman #2 (of 6)
* Detective Comics #140 facsimile edition
(originally printed in 1948)
I had hoped to also get Jay Garrick #2 and Justice Society of America #7 (which were released for Tuesday), but I found out the shop I go to doesn't make them available until Wednesday, the day Diamond Comics supplies books from publishers that still use them.

That's weird in two ways, that something was released on Tuesday, and that your shop wouldn't let you buy them then. That would have annoyed me to no end.
Anyway...

Re: When did you last go to a comic book shop?
Well, as frustrating as it was, I can also see some logic to it.Mbast1 wrote:That's weird in two ways, that something was released on Tuesday, and that your shop wouldn't let you buy them then. Anyway...
Since the bulk of comic books (the Diamond Distributors shpment) don't get to the store until a day later, it might be easier to do all the pulling of new books for customers at the same time, and it may be easier to deal with putting out all the new comic books on display at the same time as well since the store I shop at has a separate shelving area for the new comic books for that week.
I also don't know what staffing is like for when the new DC comics come in. If there's only one person working the store at that time, you may prefer to have that person available at the front of the store instead of also trying to deal with pulling new books for customers who have pull lists.
JSA has been frustrating for me because of the ungodly delays and Johns' focusing more on his new creations and additions rather than on the characters I care more about: the previous members of the JSA. I would have probably just given up on this series in another issue or two, but since it was already announced Johns is leaving DC, I'll stick it out for now and see what happens next.tony ingram wrote:I'm really enjoying JSA, Wesley Dodds: Sandman, Jay Garrick: The Flash and Alan Scott: Green Lantern.
Wesley Dodds: The Sandman I'm luke-warm about, but I think my problem may be with the writer. Artwork for the two issues I've read has been working for me so far, even though Rossmo isn't an artist I usually like.
The issue of Jay's book I've read was good, but I've passed on Alan's series because I'm not happy with the decision to retroactively make him gay and all the other nonsense Johns has inserted into his past (like "Golden Age Red Lantern"). Plus, I haven't heard many positive things about the writer (Tim Sheridan) and the preview didn't do anything to change my mind about buying it.

Well, not at the local comic book Shop but on newstands I have bought a Hugo Pratt reprinted war story from his Uk period, here's the cover and the back cover of this small Tpb (part of a long series, as you can see from its issue number) which contains also two other war stories from the long Uk war comics era!, mostly reprinted also in Italy for decades!

That looks really amazing, thanks for sharing!
I don't go to shops that often. Went a week or two ago and picked up random stuff. Often I order online, my local shops have gotten worse. Poor service.

Y'know, I never really thought about whether WWII-related comic book stories from the Allied / British perspective might be viewed in Italy (or even Germany).Barry_Allen wrote:Well, not at the local comic book Shop but on newstands I have bought a Hugo Pratt reprinted war story from his Uk period, here's the cover and the back cover of this small Tpb (part of a long series, as you can see from its issue number) which contains also two other war stories from the long Uk war comics era!, mostly reprinted also in Italy for decades!

Re: When did you last go to a comic book shop?
Stopped by the comic book store this morning and got a couple of books that were released last month:
Our Army at War #81
facsimile edition; orig. released in 1959
and
Military Comics #1
facsimile edition; orig. released by Quality Comics in 1941
