Wingman! (Hero of Sweden)
First appearance: Batman #65 (cover-dated June-July 1951)
This is not only a story about a character trained to be a Batman-like hero operating in another country, but it's a 1950s story that makes Dick Grayson look like a soap opera-like dick!
(We'll just let that line from the last panel sink in for a bit . . .
I wonder if Dr. Fredric Wertham ever read it?)
Good-ol' drama-queen Dick!
We'll save the rest of this for another post, but rest assured, all works out well in the end (at least the end of this one story).
As far as I'm aware, Wingman was a "one-and-done" character from back in the 1950s until Roy Thomas decided to make use of him as part of an expanded version of the International Club of Heroes in Infinity Inc. #34 (January 1987):
and in Secret Origins #27 (June 1988):
And then there was Grant Morrison did to him years later.
